@betula_ceramics
Starting her small pottery studio in 2021, Lizz specialises artisanal yet functional stoneware ceramics. The name “Betula” is a nod to the birch tree which was outside her first studio, being the latin word for birch. The current studio, situated in Barry, allows Lizz her very own space to work on her ceramic practice, alongside working in hospitality.
Having always lived in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, Lizz draws her inspiration from the landscape of South Wales. The straight lines of the forms of her work are expressions of the industrial architecture submerged in the Welsh countryside, whilst the earthy, minimal tones and textures keep you grounded to nature. This aesthetic is present in all of her work, from plates to mugs to plant pots. Lizz loves the challenge of developing new products with different clients which both meet their needs and stay true to Betula’s design theory.
When not making functional pieces for Betula, Lizz uses her studio to express herself through her ceramic art, making more abstract but equally stunning pieces inspired by the same idea of the mixture of nature and architecture.
