Brecon Chocolate

“I may have a hard exterior but I’ve got a soft centre, a bit like a chocolate!” says Charlotte, who has been running Brecon Chocolates since the summer of 2018. But this isn’t her first rodeo. She started making chocolates alongside her wedding and event catering business in 2001 in Hay-on-Wye, inspired by reading the 1999 bestseller “Chocolat” by Joanne Harris – a perfect fit for the town famous for its book festival! As the catering business grew busier, she made the hard decision to close the shop in Hay-on-Wye with a vow to return to chocolatiering in the future.

And return she did! Brecon Chocolates is a gorgeous shop nestled in the heart of its eponymous market town. As a homage to her inspiration and previous foray into chocolate, they sell a whole array of book-themed chocolates, from bookends to bookmarks. They have a fantastic variety – Charlotte loves making new chocolates inspired by occasions or by locally and seasonally grown fruit.

After year of hard work and drive, seeing the business grow from scratch into what it is today has been a dream come true for Charlotte, and something she’s immensely proud of.
