Peterston Tea

We love tea in the UK – we drink around 100 million cups of it a day! However, it’s a really hard plant to grow in our country. This didn’t stop Lucy from trying, though… and we’re so glad she did!

Lucy is, in her own words, “possibly tea obsessed”. “I have fallen in love with tea as both a pland and a product. Fresh leaf can be processed in so many ways into so many products, so it’s a never ending source of learning, opportunity and experimentation.” After planting the first seed in 2014, Lucy has managed to grow more every year, and is the only tea producer in Wales – and one of only a handful in the UK. Initially done to diversify her small fruit farm, the tea now takes centre stage. It’s a persistent challenge, and lots of work for just one person, but it’s a labour of love that Lucy happily undertakes. And the efforts have really been noticed – in 2023, she won “Best Food and Drink Producer in Wales” at the BBC Food and Farming awards.

Most of her life revolves around growing and producing tea and kombucha, and attempting to entertain her three dogs, who roam happily around the farm at her side.
