@hivemindmead
Kit and Matt have been beekeeping for over 20 years – since Matt was 13 years old. Hive Mind meadery has been running for 5 of those years. The brothers were avid homebrewers, and decided one day to brew some honey. After rave reviews from some locals, they entered their very first batch into the Great Taste Awards, and won 2 stars. They realised they had found their calling, and quit their jobs to make mead full time.
They are based in Caldicot, but the hives are spread around the Wye Valley in around 10 different locations including wildflower meadows, edges of forests, and even Tintern Abbey. The diversity of hive locations gives them a huge range of honey which changes with the seasons.
Where most commercially produced meads are wines sweetened with honey, Hive Mind is made the traditional way – 100% fermented honey. The brothers’ mission is to “revolutionise the world of mead”, changing its perception as a “medieval novelty drink” and bringing it back into the contemporary market.
